Gayle & Kahl’s wedding at Croy Shore

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Gayle and Kahl chose to have their ceremony on the beach below Culzean castle. A beautiful place. The walk from the car park to the beach involved climbing down 130-odd steps. If I climbed those steps once I must have climbed them a dozen times. This wasn’t just a wedding, it was a full aerobic workout. I’d never been to Croy shore before and I’d recommend it to anyone (anyone without a stair-phobia). How they got the marquee down there doesn’t bear thinking about. I can imagine the process looking like a scene from a Laurel & Hardy film.

Outside weddings are brilliant for ceremony shooting. Loads of lovely natural light and I could wander about to my hearts content without anyone noticing. Then, up the steps again to the castle for some dramatic architectural stuff.

Photography at Glencoe

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Glencoe is a really special landscape. I pass through several times every year and it feels like a different place every time. It is all to do with the weather. It could be snowing in June or the sun could be splitting the rocks in December. I love the unpredictability of it all. In preparing these landscapes I took all of the midges out in photoshop…it took a long time.

Lindsay Fleming Wedding Dresses

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

I had the honour of providing the photography for Lindsay Fleming wedding dresses (www.lindsayfleming.com).  If you don’t have your dress yet and are looking for something outside the same old designs, check them out.  We wanted a gothic, slightly outlandish feel to the photos so we grabbed the models (not literally) and whisked them (again not literally) to Caerlaverock Castle for this stunning location shoot.  I love photographing architecture and Caerlaverock Castle is up there with the best.  These dresses look amazing in a castle setting.  Thanks to Grace, Julie, David and the staff at the castle for their help on the day.

To view all the shots of the dresses Mark took that day, visit:

Louise & Simon Young’s wedding in Ballachulish

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

A few weeks ago I was in Ballachulish at one of the best wedding settings I’ve ever seen.  Check out the scenery.  This wedding was very personal to me since I’ve known both Louise and Simon for years.  Top people!  Even more surreal was the fact that the best man had been the drummer in a band I was in as a teenager and another of the guests had been in another band I’d had back in the wild days.  You can imagine how wild and crazy the nights were in the rural village of Biggar.  The whole day was a bit of a time warp really!  I seem to remember there was a bit of wine-soaked talk about reforming!  Mid-life crisis anyone?

Louise and Simon had the brilliant idea of taking some environmental portrait shots of the two of them before the ceremony.  Why don’t more people do this?  It was great.  We had tons of stress free time on our hands and had a right old laugh.  By the time the ceremony came around the majority of their shots were done and all they had left to do was get married and spend the rest of the day with their guests.  It worked really well.

It’s going to be hard to beat this wedding this year.  Great venue, great time, great, great people.
