Monday, May 9th, 2011

We have just returned from the Scottish Master Photographer Association Awards at Dunblane Hydro.  The day began with an awe inspiring seminar by Andy Earl who has had a hugely successful career within the international music business shooting cover images for over 120 sleeves and videos for musicians such as The Rolling Stones.

Then Mark was bobbing up and down from his seat fairly regularly collecting four Certificate of Merits and two Awards of Excellence across various categories.  Here are the images which were awarded:

Exceptional Success at the BIPP International Photography Awards!

Monday, November 29th, 2010

This was the title of a press release we were sent today by the BIPP with the very exciting news that Mark had won a prestigious Silver Award in the Abstract / Illustrative category at their award ceremony over the weekend.  We had been unable to attend in person as Mark was photographing a client’s wedding.

Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire played host to the British Institute of Professional Photography’s National Photographic Awards Celebration on 27 November.

Mark journeyed through two stages of judging to win a prestigious Silver Award in the Abstract / Illustrative category.  He also received three Merits in the People and Portraiture, Wedding and Fashion and Hair and Beauty categories.

As the press release went on to say, Andy Gotts FBIPP, enthused “The standards we set in the BIPP Awards are extremely high.  These pictures by Mark are outstanding examples of the best in International photography. All photographers joining our organisation go through a challenging qualifying procedure and people buying photography should be reassured to see the BIPP symbol alongside a photographer’s name.”

VOWS nominee for the third year running!

Friday, October 8th, 2010

As you may have heard on our Facebook business page or via Twittter, Mark and I have been completely thrilled to have been nominated for the 3rd year running in the VOWS Awards.  We were nominated in 2008, won the overall award for the photography category in 2009 and have now received notification of having been shortlisted again in the 2010 awards.

VOWS stands for Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier and is an awards body that was set up in 2005 to recognise companies in Scotland who offer excellent customer service within the wedding industry.  The awards are voted for by couples who have recently been married in Scotland (on or after 21st September 2009).  As the awards are based on votes from our clients, we were very flattered and honoured to win last year and very excited to be nominated again for 2010.  The final winners are announced in November.  You can view the full list of nominees here.

We would like to send a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all our lovely customers that placed a vote for us to win.

Mark Archibald is “one of Scotlands most skillful and creative photographers”

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Last year, Mark was really overwhelmed to become the winner of Complete Wedding Category of the Master Photographer Association Awards 2009 (Scottish Region). To enter you must submit 10 images from one wedding and the award reflects consistency in technical excellence.

The awards were judged by two fantastic and UK leading photographers -  Bella West and Simon Johns.  They both provided feedback on why Mark was awarded this prestigious award as follows:

“Mark Archibald’s collection of images defined him as one of Scotland’s most skillful and creative photographers. Within the ten images from one wedding, Mark demonstrated his eye for light, colour, composition, graphic and emotion – all the areas which today’s bride want to see within their wedding photographs. Alongside this, Mark has used the wonderful environment of this wedding and incorporated it within the story. Mark has managed to demonstrate all the elements of a wedding within just ten images.” – Bella West (In 2008 Bella was awarded the most prestigious and respected accolade, that of Fellowship in not one, but two of the leading professional bodies – the British Institute of Professional Photography and the Master Photographers Association – one of only a handful of females to be recognised at this level.)

“A stunning set of images, full of drama and story telling.  I liked the informality Mark captured. Observed with a keen eye and great sense of humility.” – Simon John (Simon John is one of the most celebrated photographers in the UK and was awarded his Fellowship of the British Institute of Professional Photography at a prestigious ceremony held at the House of Commons Westminster in 1996.)

The winner of the 2009 VOWS Photography Award for Outstanding Service in the Wedding Industry is …..

ARCHIBALD PHOTOGRAPHY!!!!

Mark and I were stunned and honoured to be announced on Monday night as the 2009 winner of the Photography Category of the VOWS Awards which recognises outstanding service in the wedding industry. We would like to wholeheartedly thank our clients for voting for us and for making this happen. We are lucky to book such lovely people as customers!

Monday night’s VOWS gala dinner was a glittering affair with superb entertainment by way of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Singing Waiters and comedienne Craig Hill. We literally nearly fell off our chairs when our names were announced as the winners.

The VOWS Awards are independently run and are funded by sponsorship from a range of prestigious companies (www.vowsawards.co.uk).  The aim of the VOWS Awards is to inform couples planning their wedding of the companies offering the best in service in the industry. One lucky couple who voted for their favourite suppliers also won a second honeymoon courtesy of Sandals. Unfortunately, it wasn’t one of our clients whose name was drawn this time.

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

We were delighted to hear that Mark has achieved a Gold Award at the SWPP monthly competition for September.  The SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) has judging each month in a wide range of categories and each Gold Award winning image goes through to the final end of year judging for the overall award in each category.

Mark’s image has been awarded a Gold in the Fashion category and is from a recent shoot on behalf of Lindsay Fleming.  The images were commissioned as promotional images for their new range of 20s inspired dresses.

A Gold Award is deemed to be an “image of the highest standard” and will be published in Professional Imagemaker magazine.

VOWS Award Nominee for Second Year Running …..

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Hooray!  We’ve been nominated for the second year running for the VOWS Awards! Donna and I are totally chuffed, especially as apparently this year there were more than 10,000 nominations.

The thing I like about the VOWS Awards is that it is the only one to recognise the behind-the-scenes work involved in creating a smooth, fun and well organised photography experience.  I really believe that great images are only half of what a photographer should strive to offer their couples.  We really want all our couples to look back on their wedding and remember the photography as being the best fun part…(yes, that is possible!!!).  I’m especially pleased for Donna who deserves this award on her own.  Her organisation and tireless enthusiasm has to be experienced to be believed!  Luckily all I have to do is lose myself in my photography and the fun of a wedding day.  We get so many nice people booking us that it is a doddle. I think we must have a Cool Couples Magnet hidden somewhere in our studio!

Did I mention the VOWS Awards ceremony also offers the chance to share a few guilt free shandies with some very good friends?  Here’s to the VOWS 2009 ceremony in November! ….. hic ….

Two Certificates of Merit in the Master Photography Awards 2009!

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Mark was delighted this week to receive two Certificates of Merit from his entries into the MPA Master Photography Awards 2009.  The two images to be recognised were landscape images this time.

This first image was taken on a family holiday to Morocco at the gorgeous white sands of Essaouira – even more impressive is the fact that Mark took this shot while on the back of a camel!

Mark’s a winner at the British Professional Photography Awards!!!

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Phew ….. just recovering from celebrating!  On Sunday night we were invited to the Hilton in Newcastle for the 2008 British Professional Photography Awards.  Hundreds of professional photographers from around the world were joined by representatives from the major photographic companies at the glittering Awards ceremony.

Anyway, to explain the cause of the celebrations, Mark was the winner of the 2008 Fujifilm Licentiate Competition.  Even better, he won a trip to Las Vegas! We go in February to attend the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International Convention where an exhibition of the competition winners will be touring to.

Thanks to Pamela for looking so gorgeous on her wedding day that the judges awarded her image this top prize!!

We have just heard that we have been nominated for a VOWS Award!  VOWS stands for ‘Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier’ and are voted for by the public nominating their favourite wedding suppliers - by brides, grooms and members of the bridal party involved in a wedding over the past year.  A pre-requisite to becoming a VOWS finalist or winner is to provide a consistent level of outstanding service to your bridal clients and so we are really chuffed to have been nominated!  Thanks to everyone who voted for us and keep your fingers crossed for the final judging in November!
