Vintage inspired 1950s Wedding Dresses by Lindsay Fleming

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Our studio has a great location in our opinion.  We are based in rural Lanarkshire but can be in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumfries, Ayr, Stirling, Carlisle etc to photograph weddings, fashion or portraits in no time at all.  We get lots of couples who live south of the border booking our wedding photography services as our studio is only 2 minutes from the M74 (the main road most people take to head south or north when planning their wedding) – and as we make great coffee, we are a much nicer stopping off point than the motorway services!

We have another major wedding supplier based within a few miles of us and that is Lindsay Fleming Couture.  Their reputation was built originally on their stunning celtic wedding dress designs but they have been receiving huge attention in the last couple of years for their vintage inspired wedding dress designs.  They have a range of weddings dresses based on wedding dress designs from the 1920s and the 1950s and as vintage is very much in vogue, they are well worth checking out.

Earlier this year, we did a fashion photography photoshoot of some of their newer 1950s inspired wedding dress designs using the awe inspiring venue, The Dome in Edinburgh (also available as a wedding venue).  Hair and makeup was provided by the fabulous Sharon and Monica at Made-up.

Here are some of our favourite images from the fashion shoot:

Over the past couple of years, we have loved photographing the extensive wedding dress collection of bridal designers, Lindsay Fleming.  Their 1920s vintage inspired collection ‘All That Jazz’ has been receiving lots of publicity lately and Lindsay Fleming have been travelling to London to hold appointments with brides to keep up with the high level of interest in their designs.

Recently, one of the images from a shoot of their 1920s vintage style dresses, won Mark the title of Fashion Photographer of the Year at the Scottish Master Photographer Awards.  Thought we would just share some of our other favourite images from this photoshoot:

One of our preferred wedding suppliers – Ainsley M Makeup

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Working in the wedding industry, we get to work with some great suppliers on a wedding day.  One of our favourite makeup artists to work with is Ainsley of Ainsley M Makeup.  As a professional make-up artist, specialising in bridal make-up, Ainsley is a master of making brides look radiant, natural and beautiful on their wedding day.  As well as coming out on a wedding day to do bridal makeup and makeup for others in the wedding party, such as, bridesmaids and the mother of the bride, Ainsley M also offers makeup lessons for those wishing to do their own makeup either on a wedding day or just to improve makeup application for every day wear.  Ainsley has been responsible for the vintage makeup looks for some recent fashion shoots which Mark has photographed – an image from which went on to win him Scottish Fashion Photographer of the Year recently.

Ainsley M is currently running a special offer on makeup lessons.  If you visit her Facebook page and click ‘Like’ you will be entitled to a 20% discount on a one-to-one makeup lesson.  Ainsley is based on the south side of Glasgow and you can visit her home studio to be shown the art of perfect makeup application.

Ainsley M trained at London College of Fashion in 2002 when she lived in London.  She knew from the first day on the course that this was what she wanted to do and so after returning to Glasgow, she started ‘Ainsley M‘ in 2003.

I asked Ainsley what her favourite look is to provide someone with and she told me “I really love a 40′s look, alabaster skin, dark brows and red lips. I think pale skin is so beautiful and such a welcome relief from oversprayed brides.”

I was interested to know what sets Ainsley M apart from her competition.  She graciously said “I have quite a few friends who are ‘the competition’ so need to be careful here! The majority of my work now is word of mouth as opposed to advertising. I absolutely love my job and get very passionate about it, I think my brides like that. Winning two VOWS Awards (2007 and 2008) has helped too as it demonstrates great customer service plus someone they can trust to turn up on time and do a great job.”

So where will Ainsley M be in 5 years time? “Doing exactly what I’m doing now. Making women beautiful and loving every minute of it.”

Make sure you visit her Facebook page to take advantage of the 20% off a makeup lesson offer.

Photography of Beth Morgan Couture Millinery

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

I can’t believe a year has gone by since Mark was first asked to photograph the fabulous collection of hats and fascinators by the extremely talented designer, Beth Morgan.  A year on, Beth asked if Mark would photograph a collection of her newer pieces and so another shoot was organised for just prior to Christmas.

We originally got in touch with Beth when one of our brides, Pamela MacGregor, wore one of Beth’s bridal creations at a wedding Mark shot in Girona, Spain.  Images from this wedding won Mark the Best Complete Wedding Photographer Award at the MPA Scottish Awards in 2009.  Anyway …. a conversation ensued where Beth said ‘I would love if Pamela could model my full collection and Mark could photograph it’.  We happened to know that Pamela planned to be home in Scotland for Christmas so the dream became a reality.

Hat and fascinator creations by Beth Morgan Couture are often worn to high society events and her bridal collection is also stunning.  Some of her designs have been worn to Buckingham Palace, to Royal Ascot and on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Beth offers a really friendly, down to earth service where she is always ready to help, answer questions discuss styles, source new fabrics and generally make the impossible possible!  She will send feather and fabric samples and email mock up images of any number of designs;  she is not happy unless the customer is happy!  You can contact Beth by email beth@bethmorgan.co.uk or via her website www.bethmorgan.co.uk

Some of Mark’s images and an interview with Beth Morgan have now appeared on Love My Dress blog – an excellent style diary and wedding blog of “all things glamorous and extremely very gorgeous”.

Sub-zero photoshoot of celtic and medieval wedding dresses

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Mark and I were enjoying a meal out with friends in Edinburgh having had a hair raising journey through in freezing fog; the car thermometer had been showing -14C.  Midway through the meal, we received a text from David at Lindsay Fleming Couture asking if Mark was up for a photoshoot at the derelict Crawford Castle on Sunday morning if David could find a model (mad enough) to agree.  After several weeks of snow and very cold temperatures, our local area was looking very picturesque and apparently Crawford Castle was a backdrop that David had had his eye on for a while.

Mark insisted that the text was a joke!  Who would he find willing to model their celtic and medieval wedding dresses at 9am on a Sunday morning when Crawford had been reaching temperatures down to -18C for several days?  We replied that Mark was up for anything if David could find a model who was crazy enough …… enter the very brave Karen …..

The morning was so cold that Mark was wearing several pairs of trousers over each other just to avoid frostbite.  Apparently Karen was well wrapped up under the dresses but still, the wind chill would have cut you in two.  However, I think you will agree, the results were worth the sub zero experience and Karen has recovered without any ill effects!

Lindsay Fleming will be bringing their collection of celtic and medieval wedding dresses to London along with their 1920s wedding dress collection in March allowing brides the opportunity to meet the designer in person.  For full details, or to make an appointment, visit their website.
