The 365 project. A year of Archibald Photography in photographs.
January 18. Sgorr Dhonuill. From South Ballachulish, through the forest for a couple miles, on up to the Coll between the two Munros of Beinn a bheithir…The Mountain of the Thunderbolt.
Sgorr Dhonuill is the munro to our right. We picked our way up the ridge avoiding the cornice of snow on the right which obscured the view a little. The last section of the ridge was a bit hairy because of the icy-surfaced snow and the exposed narrow ridge. We had to use ice-axes which was a first for me. The summit is a gently sloped tabletop giving 360 degree panoramas. Catch it on a day with stunning light and it would be truly amazing. Today, the light was really pretty weak but there was no wind at all at the top. It still looked cool, though. Here is Liz and Chris on the summit. This was my first Munro, we climbed it for my friend, Chris’ birthday and it was fantastic.
