Allison and Rob were set up by their friends (Indy & Sham) and went on their first blind date on 3rd May 2004. They got married exactly five years later on Sunday 3rd May 2009. Rob and Allison told us, “We decided to get married whilst staying in Cape Town for a family wedding in November 2007. We bought my engagement ring in South Africa (the diamonds were responsibly sourced and were not conflict diamonds). Rob got down on one knee and officially proposed to me on Christmas Eve 2007 after phoning my Dad and asking for his permission”
Although we both live in London, Allison told us, “we wanted to get married in Scotland as I am Scottish and Rob has Scottish roots. We looked at lots of venues however the Roman Camp Hotel in Callander stood head and shoulders above the rest, it was just perfect! You can read Allison and Rob’s review of Roman Camp on Tripadvisor here.
As Allison lives in London she bought her dress, shoes, veil and tiara from a great little shop called Maid in Heaven in Ashford. Allison bought her bridal bouquet, bridesmaids’ flowers and buttonholes from Grants Florist “It was the same florist where my Mum got her wedding flowers 35 years ago”, Allison told us.
Rob and Allison opted for a traditional ceilidh. Allison said, “it was just fantastic! The floor was packed all night! The band called the dances and performed old classics as well as new ceilidh dances.
Allison told us, “My hair and make-up artist Alexis Miller was just fabulous, she transformed me on the big day – I felt a million dollars thanks to her handy work.
Rob and Allison decided to commission Archibald Photography to capture the essence of their wedding day whilst they were attending a wedding show at the SECC in Glasgow. Allison told us, “I had never been to a wedding fair before and I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular as I was only just beginning to plan our wedding. I saw a large black & white picture of Glasgow University spire that Mark had taken and I knew instantly that he was the man for the job! The picture was just so amazing, it spoke volumes to me. Then I spoke to Donna, who was just so nice and so helpful that I definitely, definitely knew they were the right people for us! Some decisions in life are based purely on instinct and in my opinion they are often the best decisions you ever make. Some things you just feel in your soul are right and the decision to commisson Archibald Photography was the best decision I’ve ever made! Mark & Donna have been fantastic, they are both so professional and yet so relaxed and genuinely friendly – they are the kind of people you’d really like to be great mates with! Their talent and enthusiasm for their work is second to none. They both have a great eye for detail and a true artistic flare and they produce the most amazing high quality products, classic and stylish, their amazing work speaks for itself. We couldn’t recommend them highly enough. They have been fantastic to work with, the whole process has been a great experince. If you want classic photographs that will last a lifetime then they are the people for you.”
Allison and Rob said that, “Being surrounded by all of our wonderful family and friends and seeing them all have such a fabulous day. Also having a wee sing-a-long with the ‘old yins’ at the very end of the night ……. priceless!”.
Rob and Allison know that each wedding is unique to each couple. They explained that, “We just wanted to get married in a lovely location where all of our friends and family could visit for the weekend, have a wee holiday, relax, eat good food, drink good wine, have a dance and be merry! I did however stand up and make a wee speech (which is still quite unusual for a bride!) and thanked a few people and then invited all of our guests to sing happy birthday to Rob’s cousin Summer who’s 3rd birthday was on the same day as our wedding! We gave her a present and had a birthday cake for her to blow out the candles. She was chuffed to bits! Later she said to her Mum “there was a prince & princess at my birthday party”!
Allison recalled that, “My Dad and I drove to the church together in his lovely car with our favourite family song (“Country Roads” by John Denver) blaring out of the speakers. What we didn’t realise is that when we got out of the car to go into the church my Uncle Billy (who was one of our ushers, and who was in charge of parking the car for us) couldn’t figure out how to turn the stereo off or close the sun roof, so John Denver was playing away to everyone in Callander throughout our entire service! Sorry Callander.”
Rob and Allision said that “It is so difficult to sum up our wedding, but if we had to sum it up in one word we would say simply “perfect”! Everything went to plan. The sun shone on cue, the wine flowed, the food was fabulous, the men looked very dapper, the women looked very chic, and the children were all really well behaved and had a ball! It was just wonderful, right down to the impromptu Honda Goldwing motorbike escort to the church(!), and the flypast by a Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster Bomber who must have been on their way to a local airshow!!!”
